Elite Gourmet Skillet & Easy Potatoes

Growing up, my Mom owned a yellow skillet.  I remember her using it to make potato pancakes.  It was one of my favorites.

My family loves potatoes.  Often, I cut up potatoes and place them in the skillet with some oil and cook away.  I like to add garlic and onions to it too. I have to keep them to one side though, because Deanna will not eat the garlic or onions.

I have used the skillet to make potato pancakes too!

My First Time At MOPS

I moved to my current town over 3 years ago.  At the time, my third daughter was only 2 weeks old.  I was so nervous moving into a new area where I knew no one.  We have no family here and had zero friends in the area at the time.  The couple we purchased the house from had encouraged me to go the Women’s Bible Study and MOPS group.  She explained that it would be a life changer.  I know I hesitated at first.  Once, I got the courage to venture out, I went.  I was really nervous and almost came back in my house during that first MOPs meeting.  I dove right in and yes it was slightly awkward for me not knowing anyone.  Luckily right away, Katie started talking to me and put my mind at ease.  I kept going to MOPS meetings and have met some amazing mothers.  I was lucky enough to make some new friends.  I have been a part of MOPS for over two years.  Currently, I have the privilege of being on the Steering Team with other wonderful Moms and planning our meetings for our Moms who attend.  I am honored to a part of such a wonderful organization.  I look forward to our once a month meetings to connect with other Moms that are going through similar stages with their children.  Let’s face it, it is awesome to have adult conversations!

Being a Member in Bible Study

Growing up I did not know about Bible Study Groups.  It was not something that was happening in our church.  At least, I do not think it was happening.  It was not until I was in my thirties that I began to see that these small groups existed.  I have been is several small groups in the last two cities I lived in.  I love being in a bible study among other believers.  I enjoy hearing others stories and soaking in their wisdom.  Sometimes, there can be as many as 30- 40 women coming together.  On Tuesdays, I do my very best to get myself and Briella to Bible Study.  Usually I only miss if one of us are sick.  When I do not go to the study, I do not feel the same, I do not have as much patience, or strength.  I look forward to those 2 hours of learning with women of all different ages.  It is amazing coming together.  We have studies various studies and topics.  Currently, we are doing an Andy Stanley Series and several women are leading it.  I know that I feel refreshed, rejuvenated when I leave Bible Study.  I feel more adept to take on the Earthly World.   I encourage others to join small groups and get connected with others – it will energize your mind, body, and soul.

Proverbs 15:13-15

proverbs 15

13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face,
but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil,
but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.

A smile on the outside means that you are happy on the inside.  God gives us many reasons to be happy.  God loves an cares for us.  He can make us happy inside and outside.  Some of my many reasons to be happy: healthy children, wonderful husband, supportive family members, friends, relationship with God, a Father who loves me unconditionally, gift of time to spend with those I love – every day is a gift, my education (ability to read and write a blog – not everyone is as fortunate to have the opportunity for an education), warm house, safe neighborhood, clothing, food, plants, the beauty of the Earth, wild animals to watch outside our house, a working van, financial provisions God has helped provide.  I could go on and on.

What are your reasons to be happy today?

Breville Sous Chef Food Processor & Banana Nice Cream Recipe

Breville Sous Cheff food processor

I have always been amazed at the power of a food processor.  It completes tasks so much quicker than I can.  One of the hardest jobs is dicing garlic.  I let the food processor do this.  I have used the food processor to: chop onions, cut potatoes into fries, mix ingredients for a cake, and shred carrots perfectly for a salad.  The possibilities are endless!

Banana Nice Cream:
o You need frozen bananas for this recipe.
o Before you freeze the bananas, take the skin off.
o Place several frozen bananas in the food processor and mix.
o Optional (peanut butter, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries etc.)

A Hug Goes A Long Way

There are days that as a Mom, a hug can go a long way.  Sometimes giving a hug to one of my daughters can make all the difference in her attitude.  Perhaps she tripped over something and fell.  Holding Samantha and giving her a big hug sometimes is all she needs to feel better.  When Deanna is feeling frustrated or overwhelmed sometimes a hug will help calm her down and put a smile on her face.  When Jessica, has a lot on her mind and is giving me a slight attitude in the way she is speaking to me, sometimes a hug is enough to relax her.  Then there are those times or days when I need a hug to get through the moment or day.  Often, it is Samantha who will run up to me and hug me telling me she loves me.  Those little hugs, rejuvenate me and help me relax and chill out.  Deanna is one to just give us a hug for no reason too.  Hugs, physical touch is a basic need that people require.  The best part is that hugs are free. I encourage you all to get your Hug On!

The little surprises of motherhood

We really enjoy eating Chinese food and we probably order it several times a month.  Sometimes we go to a Chinese Buffet that has a Hibachi grill.  I love the Hibachi.  We went to this restaurant this past weekend.  Yesterday, Samantha discovered one of the leftover fortune cookies that were in the car.  She was excited for me to open it.  Proudly she held the fortune and says,”Mom, my fortune says Mom, I will love you forever and ever!”  I love my three year old and how blessed am I?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (NIV)

God the Father created our bodies, God the Son redeemed them, and God the Holy Spirit indwells them.  The Holy Spirit resides in those that believe as Christ as the Savior.  When we place our faith in Christ, then the Holy Spirit enters our bodies.  The Spirit is with us forever.  Christ’s blood purchased us out of the slavery of sin and set us free forever.  Bought at a price of Christ’s blood.   Christian’s bodies are God’s temple, and we are to use them to glorify God.  How we behave, think and speak, and what we let into the temple through our eyes and ears becomes critically important as well, for every thought, word and deed is in His view.  This is something to think about.  Everything I say, see, think, speak, do, and hear are heard by the Holy Spirit.  Wow, I had never thought about this that way.  In my past, I had really failed with this.  I chose to do things and let things enter my body that were not good for my temple.  I did not really think about my body being a temple.  Oh how I wished I had focused on this more from the age of 19-24.

I have pondered the temple in regard to what I place in my body as far as food.  This too was not something I focused on my whole life.  I try to choose foods that nourish my body.  I am not perfect and I do on occasion indulge in foods I know are not the best like sweets and chips.  I will pray that the holy Spirit will help me to make great choices to help nourish my mind, spirit, and body.  There is always room for improvement.
