Yes God keeps bringing me to scripture in regard to watching what I say and who I say it too. Sometimes it is something I struggle with especially with one of my middle children who challenge me almost daily.
Paul is the writer of Colossians 4:6. To speak with grace means to say what is spiritual, wholesome, fitting, kind, sensitive, purposeful, complementary, gentle, truthful, loving, and thoughtful. You need grace in your heart in order to speak with grace. You can have grace in your heart by having a relationship with God.
It is not only to be gracious, but also to have an effect. Believers’ speech should act as a purifying influence. You want to not have filth when talking to others. Similar to a previous post, I need to T.H.I.N.K. (Is what I am saying or about to say: True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, & Kind). Salt can add flavor so add value to the conversation – build people up.
Believers must also know how to respond to each person. They must know how to say the right thing at the right time. This takes really knowing the specific person and through prayers.
